Tanille and Larry’s Breckenridge, Colorado Wedding

Location: Sapphire Point, Breckenridge, Colorado

Reception Venue: Double Tree, Breckenridge

Tanille and Larry picked Sapphire Point in Breckenridge for their May wedding because of the spectacular views of snow capped mountains. Weather in May can be a little unpredictable, but luckily a winter storm cleared in time to give us some amazing photo opportunities.

Being a huge Star Wars fan, Tanille added some subtle but special touches like lightsaber bouquets for the bridesmaids and R2-D2 socks for the groomsmen for this May the Fourth be with you wedding. Anyone who knows me even a little, knows that I am also a massive Star Wars fan and definitely approved of those details. Continue reading »

Lizzy and Ben’s Crested Butte Wedding

Location: Mountain Wedding Garden, Crested Butte, Colorado

Coordinator: Krysta with Elevation Weddings and Events

Photo Booth: Reel Mobile Photos

I met Lizzy and Ben about a year before their wedding when I did their engagement photos in Breckenridge. It gave us a lot of time to plan before their summer wedding in Crested Butte, Colorado.
Crested Butte is one of the most beautiful towns in all of Colorado (and possibly all of the US. One of my favorite things about this wedding was that rain storms were coming and going throughout the day. As Coloradans, they knew not to worry because storms blow in and out quickly. It gave us the best of both worlds: clear skies for their ceremony and beautiful clouds for sunset photos afterwards. Continue reading »

Kim and Joe’s Breckenridge Wedding

Location: The Lodge at Breckenridge

Officiant: Gretchen Abernathy

Kim and Joe picked the perfect time of year for a wedding at the lodge at Breckenridge. The fall colors were really peaking, and the views from the lodge are really impressive in the fall. One of my favorite things about this wedding is when the mountain bikers showed up in the middle of doing the formal portraits, which ended up being a real “Colorado” moment.  Continue reading »

Holly and Evan’s Breckenridge Colorado Wedding

Venue: Private Home, Vacasa Rentals

Rentals: Colorado Tents and Events

Coordinator: Celebrations Denver

Holly and Evan had a lovely small wedding with close friends and family at a private home in Breckenridge, Colorado. Some of my favorite details from this wedding were her beautiful full length veil, and the place settings they chose for the dinner. I also loved how seriously the ring bearers took their jobs. Catherine and Matt’s Arapahoe Basin Wedding

Venue: Arapahoe Basin Black Mountain Lodge

Music and MC: Drew Reges

I always love photographing Arapahoe Basin Weddings. Black Mountain Lodge is a wonderful mid size venue, and the views are really out of this world. I was pretty excited when Catherine and Matt approached me about photographing their wedding at Arapahoe Basin. During the short summer season, there are wildflowers everywhere here, and the sunsets are pretty spectacular. One of the things I enjoyed most about this wedding is how Catherine and Matt really took care of their guests. They had yard games and s’mores outside for the kids, a late night snack bar for people that got hungry later, and quiet areas for people who didn’t want to dance. They also included functional wedding favors like sunglasses. They also picked the perfect time of day for pictures. Continue reading »

Shane and Mallorie’s Breckenridge Wedding

Location: Silverthorne Pavilion
Planner/Coordinator: Ariel Strickler
Florist: Pots and Petals
Catering: Gilchrist Catering

Shane and Mallorie met at Colorado State University where they were both Music Education majors. Shane was one year ahead of her in the program, and they were in the wind ensemble and marching band together. One day, after wind ensemble rehearsal, Shane walked up to her and said, “Hi Mallorie, I’m Shane!” and the rest is history. Shane proposed to Mallorie on her 25th birthday. She had opened all of her presents from her family and was getting ready to end her day when Shane announced he had one more present, pulled out a ring, and proposed! Continue reading »

Lord of the Ring (shot)

One of those things that often gets overlooked in wedding photos are the wedding rings. It is almost a separate category of wedding photography. Most people think about wedding photography as some combination of photojournalism and formal portraiture. Then maybe a few detail photos of things like place settings, the cake, and shoes are thrown in. But the rings don’t really fit into that category either.

One of the main reasons the ring shot is in a category in and of itself is because it requires an entirely different skill set and equipment from the rest of wedding photography. For starters, rings are a lot smaller than the rest of the wedding details. That is going to require specialized photography equipment; particularly macro lenses and sometimes special lighting. It also takes an eye for finding backgrounds and methods of “posing” the rings. Continue reading »
