About Timothy
Timothy Faust is an award winning photographer living in Summit County, Colorado. Timothy attended the Brooks Institute of Photography and has a decade of professional photography experience. His wedding photography can be scene in publications such as Rocky Mountain Bride. His clients often comment on how much they like his hands-off journalistic approach. Timothy goes beyond the traditional formal portrait and likes to capture those little moments that make life special.
In addition to wedding and portrait photography, Timothy's editorial work can be seen in magazines like National Geographic Adventure, Outside, Trail Runner, and Freeskier. He combines his love of photography with his love of the outdoors to create some compelling landscape and adventure imagery. He also writes a weekly photography column for The Summit Daily News.
Timothy is originally from Illinois. He discovered photography in college while working as a raft guide on summer vacation. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in chemistry. He went on to teach high school in Illinois for several years. During this time he was constantly taking photographs as he traveled, and after being asked to photograph several of his friends' weddings he decided to leave teaching and pursue photography full time.
Once the decision was made, Timothy moved to California with his wife Carin to study still photography at the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara. After only a year, he knew it was time to set up shop in Summit County, Colorado. The beautiful mountains around Breckenridge and Lake Dillon provide him with the perfect backdrop for all of his photographic passions.
Timothy loves shooting with digital, but his roots are in black and white print film and color slide film. He understands the importance of getting the capture right in camera. He recently had one of his old digital cameras converted to black and white infrared in order to get that moody look he remembers from film. Timothy is pioneering some new frontiers for black and white digital printing, and he has some exciting new and unique techniques ready for the 2008 wedding season.
Timothy knows how photography can take a toll on the environment he loves, so he has recently initiated new polices such as purchasing carbon offsets, recycling, reducing the use of new materials, and even planting trees in the name of each couple whose wedding he photographs. You can read more about his environmental and socially responsible polices by clicking the green link below.
In addition to photography, Timothy also volunteers for the Summit County Rescue Group, a search and rescue organization that responds to emergencies in the back country of Summit County. Timothy also is president of the Summit County Arts Council. The SCAC's mission is to provide opportunities for local artists as well as supporting art education in local community schools.
Timothy is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers, and an Accolade of Excellence Award winning member of Wedding and Portrait Photographers International.
