Sandhill Crane Wildlife Photography

This past week I had the good fortune of travelling to Nebraska for three days to photograph the Sandhill Crane migration along the Platte River.  These are just a few of the thousands of images I made there.

Every spring the cranes fly from as far south as Mexico to as far noth as Siberia.  The cranes stop along the Platte River for several weeks along their journey in order to rest and store energy for the trip north.  I spent two nights in a blind at the Rowe Sanctuary photographing the birds each morning and evening.  During the day, the cranes leave their roosts on the water to fly to nearby fields to feed on corn from the neighboring fields.
